Farmer Goes Solo at Fernrigg Farm
Former Widden Stud yearling manager Rae-Louise Farmer is setting up a solo venture in the Hunter Valley at Fernrigg Farm.
After a five-year stint at Widden, Farmer has taken a long-term lease on the 70-acre farm and plans to specialise in the development of young stock and sales preparation of yearlings as well as managing breeding stock for clients.
“I’m very excited to be starting this new chapter of my career,” said Farmer. “I’m extremely grateful to everyone who has influenced me along the way and feel fortunate to have learned from some of the best in the industry––Terry Doherty during my time at Watership Down, Mike Cline at Lane’s End in Kentucky and most recently Antony Thompson who has given me the privilege of growing out and selling horses of the calibre of Dissident, Takedown, Stratum Star and Star Turn to name but a few.”
Farmer bought two weanlings under the Fernrigg Farm banner at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Friday.
She added, “I hope to continue the success Martin Byrne has had with this beautiful property. In a short period of time, the farm has produced top-quality racehorses such as dual Group 1-winning filly Yankee Rose, last Saturday’s Group 3 winner Acatour, as well as stakes winners Tawteen and Well Sprung.”
